Job description
Mothering Justice seeks a dedicated and experienced Director of Organizing to lead grassroots mobilization efforts, advance social justice initiatives, and empower communities through the Mamas’ Agenda. This position is responsible for leading organizing efforts, developing strategies, and fostering collaborations to address key social justice issues in politically and culturally diverse communities. The Director will report to the Founding Executive Director, and will work closely with internal staff to develop a comprehensive organizing plan that increases visibility and mobilizes action around Mothering Justice’s core issues called the Mamas’ Agenda.
The Director of Organizing must be a seasoned and passionate organizer with a proven ability to lead and win. The ideal candidate will bring a rigorous understanding of organizing tactics and strategy, paired with the skills to execute impactful campaigns efficiently and effectively. They must thrive in fast-paced environments, balancing urgency with intentionality, and have a track record of achieving tangible results. With strong management experience, they will excel at guiding and inspiring teams to perform at their best. This role requires a significant amount of in-person work with a team of community organizers, fostering collaboration and accountability. This role will ensure organizers follow a clear schedule, starting their day in the office to receive assignments, heading into the field to engage the community, and returning for check-ins. Flexible and adaptable, the ideal candidate must know how to manage their care and well-being, while maintaining focus on Mothering Justice’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and oversee impactful organizing strategies and campaigns at local, state, and national levels.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a dynamic team of organizers, equipping them with the tools and confidence to bring transformative change to communities. Create a culture of support, accountability, and collective care within the organizing team.
- Represent the organization in high-stakes settings, including meetings with policymakers, media, and community groups.
- Provide regular supervision, support, and guidance to the community organizers to succeed in their work, avoid burnout, and better engage our ba.se
- Support the different organizing campaigns.
- Regularly report on organizing activities, successes, and challenges to the Founding Executive Director and other key stakeholders.
- Manage budgets for organizing initiatives, ensuring effective and efficient use of resources.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Political Science, Social Work, or related field; or substantial experience in community organizing, advocacy, or campaign management is required.
- Additional certifications or specialized training in areas such as Community Organizing, Nonprofit Leadership, or Advocacy from reputable organizations are preferred._
- 7+ years of community organizing, advocacy, or campaign management experience, including leading teams.
- Hands-on experience organizing community events, rallies, town halls, or other grassroots mobilization activities.
- Proven ability to manage campaigns, budgets, and grassroots events. strong knowledge of social justice issues, including housing, paid sick leave, and racial equity.
- Ex Experience building coalitions and engaging diverse communities. excellent leadership, strategic planning, and communication skills.
