Movement Labs is a movement incubator and the leading peer-to-peer text political consultancy supporting progressives and grassroots activists nationwide. We are dedicated to building durable electoral power by expanding voter participation, shifting partisanship of current voters, and turning non-voters into voters. Through scalable, data-driven strategies and innovative tactics—from grassroots organizing to digital engagement—we target key districts and states to secure federal power. We invest in pioneering new methods and piloting programs that will ultimately help us win the House in 2026 and the presidency in 2028. Beyond the major elections, we focus on securing critical rule-of-law positions to protect democracy, build a strong candidate bench, and safeguard the integrity of future elections.

Movement Labs is a fast-paced environment, where we are laser-focused on testing and implementing strategies for resisting the worst of the Trump agenda. We work hard, and the environment evolves rapidly. We are adaptable, nimble, and shift quickly as needed to meet the moment. We are looking for candidates that thrive in this type of environment.

We are seeking at least one temporary Software Engineering Fellow to join our team through December 19 to contribute to this exciting and essential work. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and available to work 9-5 on a continental US timezone. This role is fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to internal tooling, automations, and infrastructure to improve team workflows
  • Build, test, and maintain backend systems, including agentic AI pipelines or experimental prototypes
  • Write clean, well-documented code to support operations and innovation
  • Take a systematic approach to tasks: define goals, structure work, document outcomes
  • Stay organized in the face of ambiguity; prioritize well and manage time independently
  • Sweat the small stuff: flag edge cases, catch bugs early, follow naming conventions, write good commit messages

Our preferred candidate will have many of these characteristics and experience:

  • Coding experience, especially in Python, JavaScript, SQL, or other programming languages (personal projects, coursework, or internships all count!)
  • A strong interest in using tech and data for progressive political change
  • A systematic and organized working style
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new tools and skills
  • Clear communication and attention to detail
  • Comfort working in a remote, fast-paced, and experimental environment

Our preferred candidate may have some of these characteristics and experience:

  • Familiarity with agentic AI systems or pipelines
  • Experience using tools like GitHub and the Google Cloud suite
  • Exposure to messaging systems (e.g. SMS/MMS)
  • Experience with organizing, campaign work, or grassroots activism
  • Compensation is $23/hour, with accruable sick time and paid federal holidays.
  • This is a temporary hourly position that runs through December 19, 2025.
  • This position IS NOT eligible for the collective bargaining unit.

We’re looking for candidates with a wide range of skills and experience. If you’re excited about the job, even if you don’t match all the qualifications or experience, we encourage you to apply.

Resumes will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications submitted by August 8 will be given priority. The application process includes a first round interview, an exercise, and a full interview with the hiring manager. Due to the nature of our work, the process is moving quickly, and we are looking for candidates who can start ASAP.

Movement Labs is an equal opportunity employer with a commitment to economic and social justice. Women, people of color, LGBTQ people, people with disabilities, and members of other historically disenfranchised populations are strongly encouraged to apply.
