A joint Assembly campaign in New Jersey seeks a full-time Legislative District Finance Director. This role involves overseeing all fundraising efforts for two candidates simultaneously running for the New Jersey General Assembly within the same legislative district. The Finance Director will work closely with the NJ Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee (DACC) and other key stakeholders to create and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and capable of leading the team toward the campaign’s financial goals. The Finance Director will report directly to the Campaign Manager in their assigned legislative district. The role runs from December 1, 2024, to November 30, 2025, with potential changes in district assignment after the June primary election.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Fundraising Strategy: Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including digital campaigns, direct mail, events, and donor outreach.
- Consultant Management: Manage a fundraising consultant tasked with chasing institutional New Jersey contributors and ensure their efforts align with overall campaign goals.
- Event Planning: Plan and execute small- and large-scale fundraising events to meet and exceed financial benchmarks.
- Donor Expansion: Research and identify new donors while maintaining and expanding the donor base.
- Call Time Management: Hire and manage a Call Time Manager responsible for scheduling and coordinating candidate call time with donors.
- Compliance: Work with a compliance consultant to file all necessary paperwork with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC), ensuring campaign compliance with state regulations.
- Financial Tracking: Report regularly to DACC leadership, the Campaign Manager, candidates, and other stakeholders to ensure financial contributions meet or exceed benchmarks.
- Revenue Oversight: Track revenue, adjust financial goals as necessary, and ensure the accuracy of all financial reports.
- Donor Research: Research new and potential donors and maintain up-to-date and accurate donor databases.
- Fundraising Committee Collaboration: Collaborate with fundraising consultant on strategy, public messaging, and politically sensitive issues.
- Team Management: Direct staff, interns, and volunteers in the execution of fundraising events and donor outreach.
- Communications: Manage communications for fundraising, including drafting emails, donor reports, social media posts, and direct mail campaigns in coordination with DACC leaders and candidates.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Campaign Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven experience in fundraising and team management, with a track record of success across multiple fundraising channels, including events and digital strategies.
- Experience managing fundraising consultants, Call Time Managers, and expertise in expanding donor outreach.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel), Google Suite, NGP-VAN, TargetSmart/VAN, ActBlue, and Canva a plus.
- Knowledge of state and federal election law is preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation, a computer, and a smartphone.
- Must live in New Jersey and be available to work in person throughout the 2025 legislative cycle. This is an in-person position with no virtual work option.
Responsibilities:
This position is primarily office-based but requires in-state travel with flexible work hours to staff fundraising events.
