North Shore Strategies is seeking an Organizing Director to lead a field program across New York City and Westchester County to support voter contact, turn out voters for a candidate, and lead grassroots field operations. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, results-driven organizer with strong experience in field operations, staff management, and community engagement. The Organizing Director will play a critical role in building and executing a high-performing ground game to mobilize voters and drive campaign momentum.
About the Role
As an Organizing Director, you will be responsible for recruiting, training, and managing organizing staff to meet campaign goals while overseeing daily field operations. You will monitor progress, troubleshoot challenges, and collaborate closely with the Campaign Manager to adapt strategies and hit benchmarks. This position is critical to ensuring a high-performing ground game that engages voters and builds campaign momentum.
Primary Responsibilities
- Building and executing a comprehensive grassroots voter contact plan, including canvassing, phone outreach, and GOTV efforts.
- Develop and implement field strategies to maximize voter contact, persuasion, and turnout.
- Manage paid canvassers, paid live phone call programs, and GOTV program execution to ensure programs hit performance targets.
- Oversee daily field operations, including scheduling shifts, assigning turf, and monitoring progress.
- Identifying, recruiting, and training volunteer leaders.
- Leading canvasses to identify and engage supporters.
- Track daily metrics and maintain accurate data using campaign reporting tools; communicate regularly with senior leadership to report on progress and refine strategy.
- Troubleshoot logistical and personnel challenges to maintain momentum in the field.
- Ensure staff professionalism, messaging discipline, and adherence to campaign guidelines.
- Foster a positive team culture that prioritizes accountability, equity, and shared goals.
Qualifications
- Three years of professional work experience, at least one to two cycles of experience in field organizing or campaign work.
- Management experience required, including supervising paid canvassing staff and volunteers.
- Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to motivate and develop teams.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Familiarity with voter contact tools such as VAN, MiniVAN, and Reach.
- Experience tracking and analyzing performance metrics to guide decision-making.
- Ability to adapt quickly and problem-solve in a high-pressure campaign environment.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
- NYC campaign experience preferred, but not required.
