The responsibilities of the Inspector General’s Office include investigating allegations of corruption or misconduct, violations of the collective bargaining agreements and other matters to protect the lawful interests of the District Council, recommending remedial action, assisting the District Council in complying with the requirements of the Consent Decree and Stipulation and Order, identifying organization risks and vulnerabilities, and assisting in the development, implementation, and enforcement of effective compliance and ethics programs.

Purpose: Under the supervision of the Inspector General’s management team, the Investigator assists with background investigations and conducts research to aid in investigatory work being conducted in the department. We are seeking a hard-working, motivated candidate who is committed to serve the District Council and the Inspector General’s Office.

Duties: This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with the UBC Constitution, NYC District Council By-Laws, Collective Bargaining Agreements, Out of Work List Rules, Stipulation and Order, Consent Decree, and the internal rules and regulations of the District Council.

In addition, the following duties will also be performed:

  • Gather field intelligence
  • Conduct and/or support internal investigations into employees, agents, representatives, members, and Shop Stewards
  • Conduct Integrity Checks on job sites
  • Prepare and file reports
  • File grievances
  • File charges
  • Testify at trials, as necessary
  • Perform surveillance
  • Interview subjects and witnesses
  • Examine and analyze records
  • Develop and maintain case files
  • Cultivate informants
  • Handle other responsibilities as needed

Qualifications:

  • Must be a retired law enforcement professional, with experience working in the investigative field
  • Must have 20 years experience in law enforcement; experience as a Detective or Investigator preferred but not required.
  • Must have the following certifications or be able to obtain them within 12 months:
  • New York State Private Investigators License (must be maintained during employment in IGO)
  • 10-hour and 30-hour OSHA
  • Sexual Harassment
  • First Aid
  • CPR
  • 4-hour Scaffold (minimum)
  • *Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and a Secure Worker Access Consortium Card (SWAC) if applicant does not already have these certifications
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test
  • Must be able to utilize a computer and iPad
  • Must maintain a valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding
  • Must have strong written communication and report writing skills
  • Performance of the duties may require frequent, unscheduled work on evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry a plus

Salary: $80,000.00 per year
