Purpose of the Role
As the Senior Associate of Civics and Democracy Youth Education, you will be responsible for supporting the vision and implementation of K-12 Civics and Democracy education programs at the Obama Presidential Center (OPC) and associated digital channels. Drawing on the values of President and Mrs. Obama, this educator will partner with Volunteers and Museum Staff as the OPC supports students and educators in learning the knowledge, skills, and behaviors critical to a healthy democracy.In the interim, this position will report directly to the Strategic Learning Manager until a formal education team is finalized, and works closely with OPC Operations, and other Foundation program teams, including Global Leadership Programs, Girls Opportunity Alliance, and My Brother’s Keeper.
Core Job Responsibilities
Field Trip Experience: Act as a “floor captain” for school visits to the OPC, serving as a day-of point of contact for visiting schools, Operations and Security staff, and volunteers.
Curriculum & Materials: Collaborate with the Manager of Strategic Learning on the design and development of new curriculum and classroom materials.
Measurement & Evaluation: Oversee the administration of evaluations and communicate learnings with the Manager of Strategic Learning, and the internal measurement and evaluation team, providing recommendations for program iteration.
Subject Matter Expert: Assist with educator professional development, uplifting subject matter expertise in museum and civics education.
Other duties as assigned.
Key Deliverables / Outcomes
Captain on-campus field trips to the OPC, meeting or exceeding NPS metrics and other defined M&E outcomes.
Collaborate on educator professional development and supporting resources, including Museum resources and digital classroom resources.
Represent the Obama Foundation and its K-12 Civics and Democracy Education programs, supporting the growth of the Foundation’s educator and school network.
Support the Manager of Strategic Learning with budgets and fundraising.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Museum Education, Childhood Development, or a similar field. Master’s degree preferred.
At least 2 years of experience as a classroom or museum educator, or at least 2 years of experience managing classrooms of students. Benefit if you have experience planning and executing field trips either as an educator, or as an institution.
Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to scaffold messages for kindergarteners to executive leadership.
A love of history, civics, and knowledge of Chicago and President and Mrs. Obama.
Experience working with diverse populations of educators, students, chaperones, and colleagues.
Experience with measurement and evaluation.
The salary range for this role is between $79,040 and $98,800.
This is an in-office role based at the Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park.
