Community Health Educator II – School-Based Health Mentor – Minneapolis & Richfield, MN
Pay: $20.60 per hour (experience will be compensated)
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Shift times: Monday – Friday, work hours will vary.
Location: Work on site at Richfield High School (7001 Harriet Ave, Richfield MN 55423) 4 days a week, on day 5 you will be expected to work out of the Minneapolis Health Center (1200 Lagoon Ave, Minneapolis MN 55408) or remotely if approved by management.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, health or health promotion, human services or related area or 3+ years progressive related work experience in lieu of a degree
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in Spanish and English
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all PPNCS business and activities on and away from the Must provide proof of adequate automobile insurance coverage if required to drive on PPNCS business
RESPONSIBILITIES [Fulfilled in Spanish and English]:
  • The Health Educator II: School-based Health Mentor will work almost full-time out of a Hennepin County high school to facilitate programs and initiatives that increase young people’s access to sexual and reproductive health education and resources. The remaining time will be spent executing on different aspects of the regional workplan, which may include tabling and outreach events or other presentation opportunities.
  • The Health Educator II: School-based Health Mentor provides 1:1 sexual health mentoring services, classroom instruction, and out-of-school-time programming for youth at their assigned site. In addition to these direct services, the Health Educator II: School-based Health Mentor collaborates with the school clinic, student support staff, and faculty to support and sustain positive student sexual health outcomes.
  • Deliver high quality, research-based sexuality education programs to diverse audiences in an assigned school setting.
  • Prepare or design culturally sensitive, age-appropriate, inclusive and trauma-informed content that is medically accurate and pedagogically sound on a variety of human sexuality topics including but not limited to contraception, sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS prevention, consent, healthy relationships, sexual decision making and effective communication around issues of human sexuality.
  • Build and maintain authentic and reciprocal partnerships with school partners, stakeholders, and others invested in young people with priority placed on educational needs of students and promote the mission of PPNCS and the goals of the Education Department
  • Build and maintain authentic and reciprocal partnerships with the school-based clinic, as well as PPNCS health services and health center staff to promote student health outcomes.
  • Participate in all required Education Department meetings, Community of Practices, and PPNCS all-staff meetings.
  • Commit to a professional development plan that includes completing trainings in different evidence-based sexual and reproductive health curricula, motivational interviewing methods, parent education, and other relevant topics.
  • Use a variety of modalities (web research, professional reading and training, PPFA affiliate information, and collaborative resources) to stay current regarding sexuality education topics, state, and national trends related to sexuality and social issues that reflect the mission of PPNCS and the vision of the Education Department.
  • Articulate PPNCS’ mission, promote the goal of the Education Department and communicate effectively about human sexuality issues with diverse audiences during educational presentations, in collaborative meetings, with professional groups, and with the media.
  • Respond quickly and thoroughly to community requests for sexuality programming and/or
  • Represent PPNCS and the Education Department professionally to community collaborative meetings, boards and advisory committees.
  • Demonstrate collaboration with each member of the Education Staff that will build a team characterized by expertise, creativity, cooperation and mutual respect.
  • Complete internal paperwork, including but not limited to timesheets, program reporting and outreach documentation within the timeframe established by Education Leadership Team.
  • Dedicated time to professional skill development around Diversity Equity and Inclusion At least 10% of time or 4 hours per week for full time schedule.
