Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund seek a dedicated Specialist, Donor Services to oversee donations through various financial security vehicles, such as Stocks and Donor Advised Funds. This role reports to the Associate Director, Donor Services in the Direct Response department of PPFA.
The Direct Response department raises funds from individuals through mail, telemarketing, canvassing, and online solicitations. The Securities program is an important part of Planned Parenthood’s fundraising portfolio and has grown significantly in recent years.
Purpose:
The Specialist will be responsible for the management of the gifts of stock and other financial securities and the development and management of the department’s Donor Advised Fund programs. They will serve as subject matter expert to Development Division staff members to ensure accurate and timely processing of contributions and positive donor experience. They will monitor standards and procedures, as well as develop and implement new ones for maximized program efficiency. They will develop and present marketing recommendations based on their analysis of all aspects of the Securities and Special Giving program. Other forms of special giving (e.g. matching gifts, workplace giving, peer-to-peer fundraising) may be incorporated into the scope of work in the future.
The Specialist will also provide general support to donors, affiliates, companies, and the general public, working with the Donor Services team to ensure that all donor communication is handled in a timely, effective, and efficient manner. Supervisory responsibilities may include seasonal Temp at peak giving season.
Delivery:
• The Specialist will manage the already established Stocks program working to elevate it year over year. They will be responsible for the processing and stewardship required in liquidating, recording, and acknowledging gifts of stock and other financial securities. The Specialist will process over 1,000 gifts of appreciated securities from approximately 700 donors and institutions and $40 MM in revenue annually.
• The Specialist will work both independently, exercising their own judgment daily, as well as collaboratively with external financial institutions and internal partners within Development, Finance, and the Office of General Counsel to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the process. They will monitor and input the received securities gifts daily, and diligently document all relevant stock information, as well as maintain up-to-date files on donor communication and intended donations.
• The Specialist will regularly review gifts to ensure all components have been documented and received and perform the required research to verify gifts before sale. They will conduct and present standing analysis on all aspects of their program as well as offer strategic recommendations to meet or exceed target revenue.
• The Specialist will support the Donor Services team by handling general donor-related issues and opportunities in Salesforce and EveryAction databases, providing information in response to inquiries about the organization, specific donation concerns, and complaints, and ensuring donor records are properly maintained and coded with solicitation and contact preferences, contact information changes, and other updates.
• The Specialist will capture and process credit card donations as well as refunds, and produce duplicate acknowledgements for donors.
Engagement:
The Specialist will regularly interface with key stakeholders including donors, prospects, inbound call center partners, PPFA and affiliate staff(primarily within the Development division and Finance), and brokerage and financial institutions. They will collaborate with other divisions and teams to offer a positive donor experience as well as research and resolve potential donor issues. The Specialist will maintain relationships with external vendors and serve as a point of contact for all inquiries and requests regarding stocks and other financial securities. They will also be the point of contact for gifts made through Donor Advised Funds from supporters, not in the President's Circle, Principle, and Major Gifts, or other portfolios.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work experience required.
• 2-3 years of directly related, progressively responsible experience in direct response marketing, project management, customer service, development, finance, stock market, or revenue operations.
• Highly proficient with Google Suite, Excel
• Database experience is strongly preferred, especially familiarity with EveryAction and Salesforce.
• Nice to have: Prior experience with securities and special giving
• Proactive and self-starter.
• Positive demeanor and attitude.
• Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong customer service skills; impeccable verbal and written communication with the ability to handle challenging interactions professionally.
• Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Demonstrated ability to multitask, learn and process new information quickly, and exercise good judgment when dealing with a wide variety of people and subjects.
• Basic understanding of stocks, mutual funds, Direct Response Marketing communication, and fundraising techniques.
• Familiarity with best practices related to gift processing.
• Ability to adhere to procedures to ensure departmental objectives are met and the highest ethical standards of conduct and compliance are in place and followed.
• Working knowledge of the issues facing PPFA and of the operating environment.
