About Seed the Vote
Seed the Vote (STV) is a national organization mobilizing volunteers to defeat the right wing by supporting the electoral work of labor unions and community organizations in swing states, while also building the long term power of working class communities and communities of color.
Position Overview
The STV Technology Lead will be a key partner to STV’s organizing staff and oversee the development, maintenance, and strategic growth of our technology infrastructure. This role requires a product-minded engineer who can do hands-on work and has strong communication skills. The STV Technology Lead will develop our CRM and data pipelines, and build custom solutions that enable our staff to operate at scale. The STV Technology Lead will report directly to the Technology Solutions Director. The STV Technology Lead is expected to operate fairly independently and take initiative on implementing tech solutions with regular input from STV program staff.
The STV Technology Lead will be both a builder and an organizer that can coordinate colleagues to prioritize tech solutions—comfortable designing systems, writing code, and closely coordinating with organizing staff in alignment with our mission and values. This role requires a leader with the vision to develop robust, sustainable systems and, due to the cyclical nature of electoral work, the ability to pivot to support immediate technology needs during elections.

Technical Development & Implementation

Lead the maintenance, enhancement, and scaling of STV’s in-house data pipelines and CRM.

Develop lightweight UIs and applications to support operational needs.

Administer and advise on STV’s usage of managed software.

Maintain system uptime and data security.

Set and maintain best practices for documentation and engineering quality.
Technical Leadership & Vision

Identify technology and data needs across STV and translate them into intuitive solutions.

Own STV’s technology roadmap and project management.

Recruit, manage, and supervise STV’s team of tech volunteers and interns.
Staff Collaboration & Support

Train staff and volunteers on systems, workflows, and best practices.

Collaborate with organizing and operations teams to ensure tech solutions meet current needs and anticipate future tech needs.
Required Qualifications

Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.

Strong experience with Python and relational databases.

Strong experience translating user needs into technical requirements.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Commitment to progressive grassroots values and electoral organizing.

Familiarity with security best practices and data privacy standards.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with data pipelines and orchestration tools.

Experience deploying and maintaining apps on Heroku.

Experience with Action Network, Mobilize, and ActBlue APIs.

Familiarity with Airtable.

Background in campaign, advocacy, or nonprofit technology leadership.

Ability to configure and support campaign tech tools (e.g., ThruText, VAN).

Experience managing and mentoring small teams of technical contributors.

Experience working with elections / political campaigns.

Employment Terms

This position is based in Oakland, California with a hybrid work schedule of 2 days in-person / 3 days remote; we are open to remote placement for folks who can travel to the San Francisco Bay Area regularly (4 times per year).

This is an exempt, full-time, benefits eligible position of 40 hours per week with an estimated salary range of $75,000 – $90,000 annually, depending on experience. We offer a competitive health benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, and a generous paid time off schedule.
