Position Summary
As Deputy Data Director, you will report to the Data Director. You will be the vital link between AZ’s complex data infrastructure and our county parties, legislative districts, and campaign users in the field.
This position will collaborate closely with campaigns, county parties, and partner organizations. The Deputy Data Director will play a hands-on role in maintaining VAN and expanding the overall capacity of the Arizona Democratic Party’s Data team. We are seeking a detail-oriented, solutions-driven individual with campaign experience who is passionate about helping Dems use data to win elections.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Help manage the acquisition of voter files and other supplementary data
- Administer the state party’s VoteBuilder and users and committees within it
- Administer other tools as required, including but not limited to: Mobilize, Scale to Win, Reach, ElectionBuddy, and more
- Enforce compliance with the state party’s data policies
- Respond to user support requests and train users on using various data and campaign tools
- Obtain polling locations from state and local election authorities and format and upload them to VoteBuilder, LBJ, and IWillVote.com
- During early voting periods, obtain data on voters who have requested/cast mail ballots or voted early in person as available and send to the DNC for processing
- Create training materials and instructional manuals for tools used by the state party
- Assist the data director in automating routine processes
- Work with DNC and sister committee staff on program goals, as necessary
- Create systems for program tracking and accountability, in partnership with in-state stakeholders (e.g., by building reports/dashboards to track organizer activity or progress to goal)
- Create target and voter contact universes
- Assist the Data Director and Executive Director as needed
- Support data and mapping projects related to redistricting, district analysis, and community outreach, including analysis of voter registration, Democratic performance, population, demographic data, and other district-level metrics as needed.
- Track relevant district maps, boundaries, and changes as they arise, and provide regular, timely reports to the Data Director, Political Department, and Executive Director on the data and political implications of those changes.
- Maintain baseline data accuracy through regular data cleaning searches, standardization of data practices, and consolidation of codes, questions, categories, and other data inputs in VoteBuilder and related systems.
- Set up new committees in VoteBuilder as needed and serve as the first line of support for basic committee changes, including user access, codes, questions, survey questions, activist codes, and related administrative needs.
- Perform periodic trainings for campaign staff, county parties, legislative districts, caucuses, councils, activists, and other approved users to ensure consistent and secure use of VoteBuilder and other campaign data tools.
- Build reports on key campaign, organizing, voter registration, voter contact, and program metrics throughout the campaign cycle, as directed by the Data Director or Executive Director.
- Perform duties with discretion and maintain the security and confidentiality of ADP-related data, materials, emails, work product, and strategic conversations.
Secure, retain, and manage work product, files, data, and communications within the bounds of ADP policy and applicable data-security requirements.

At least 1 campaign cycle of experience in a data role or 3+ campaign cycles of experience in field roles with high-level VoteBuilder access
Proficiency in SQL and/or Python
Familiarity with the Democratic data and tech ecosystem
Familiarity with the political landscape of AZ
Required Qualifications:
Familiarity with Votebuilder (VAN), Mobilize, and Google Sheets
Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users, especially VAN usage and data standards
Ability to manage a wide array of stakeholders, including those with competing interests
Willingness to ask questions and grow within a technical role with constantly changing priorities
Ability to communicate clearly and proactively both internally and with external partners
Ability to manage multiple projects independently and navigate competing priorities
