Red Wine & Blue is a national community of over 600,000 diverse suburban women working together to defeat extremism, one friend at a time (The Washington Post got it right with this profile: ‘Blue’ suburban moms are mobilizing to counter conservatives). We are looking for a bold and visionary State Program Director to lead a powerhouse team of women in our flagship state of Ohio! In this role, you’ll set the vision and drive the program strategy across the state—mobilizing, engaging, and expanding women’s civic and political participation.
WHO YOU ARE: You’re a powerhouse leader with a passion for mobilizing women and making an impact. You’re tired of politics-as-usual, thrive in fast-paced environments, love building a strong team, and know how to turn big ideas into action. Strategy is your superpower—you can see the big picture while keeping an eye on the details. You’re a natural storyteller, a coalition builder, and a fearless advocate for civic and political engagement. Whether you’re rallying volunteers, shaping program strategy, or navigating the complexities of Ohio’s political landscape, you do it with energy, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to empowering women.
This role oversees a team of five, directly supervises the Deputy Program Director, reports to the Sr. Director, Strategic Organizing and is a full-time position based out of your home office in Ohio. Frequent in-state travel may be required to attend meetings and events and occasional out-of-state travel is required for in-person meetings and all-staff gatherings.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Lead Vision & Strategy: Develop and implement strategic plans for relational organizing initiatives that align with the organization’s mission and broader goals.
- Empower & Manage Team: Mentor and empower the Ohio organizing team and directly manage the Deputy Program Director, who is responsible for supervising four year-round organizers, ensuring effective execution of state-focused programs and initiatives.
- Build Strategic Partnerships: Cultivate and maintain relationships with community leaders and partner organizations to increase RWB’s impact and amplify RWB’s brand.
- Drive Community Engagement: Design and oversee the implementation of campaigns that mobilize suburban women through diverse and creative outreach strategies.
- Manage Resources: Ensure efficient allocation of resources for maximum program impact.
- Leverage Data to Optimize Impact: Implement data-driven evaluation methods to assess program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement. Empower the Ohio organizing team to make informed, strategic decisions.
- Champion Diversity & Inclusion: Foster a culture of equity and inclusion both within the organization and through community engagement efforts.
- Inspire & Collaborate: Create a strong, supportive team environment with open communication and seamless cross-functional collaboration.
- Maximize Digital Influence: Utilize social media to engage, persuade, and inform audiences on key issues and initiatives.
- Serve as a Statewide Voice: Work with the Comms & Media team to represent the organization in the media, amplifying the concerns and perspectives of suburban women in Ohio. Act as a key Red Wine & Blue representative with partners, coalitions, and stakeholders, ensuring our mission and values are effectively communicated and aligned with broader advocacy efforts.
- Lead Hiring & Team Growth: Act as the final decision-maker for hiring within the Ohio organizing team, ensuring a strong and dynamic staff.
- Other duties as assigned
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Leadership & Program Management: A proven track record in leadership roles, particularly in program management, community engagement, or political advocacy. You have experience planning, implementing, and evaluating programs that drive impact.
- Team Development: Strong ability to lead, mentor, and support a team, including people managers, ensuring they have the guidance and resources to succeed. You excel at effective delegation and fostering a team culture of distributed leadership, empowering team members to take ownership, make decisions and contribute to the organization's success.
- Growth Mindset: You embrace learning, take risks, and see failures as opportunities for growth. You welcome feedback and continuously seek ways to improve.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Proficiency in using data to inform strategy, track outcomes, and assess program effectiveness. Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems is preferred, with Every Action CRM experience highly desired.
- Community Organizing Expertise: A deep understanding of grassroots mobilization, coalition building, and advocacy strategies to engage and activate communities.
- Resource Management: Experience allocating resources effectively to ensure program sustainability and impact.
- Policy & Advocacy Knowledge: Familiarity with policy development, legislative processes, and advocacy work, with the ability to navigate Ohio’s political landscape.
- Commitment to Inclusion: You work effectively with people across diverse backgrounds, including different ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, ethnicities, religions, political views, and job roles.
- Adaptability & Flexibility: You’re comfortable navigating ambiguity, juggling competing priorities, and shifting focus when needed. You thrive in fast-paced, quickly changing environments and can adapt to shifting demands with confidence. Evenings and weekends may be required to support key events and mobilization efforts.
- Strong Organizational Skills: You excel at prioritizing tasks, managing time efficiently, and keeping projects on track.
- Playfully Passionate: You bring energy, enthusiasm, and a “get sh*t done” attitude—while keeping things fun. You understand that we can do serious work without taking ourselves too seriously.
WHAT WE OFFER
