REPORTS TO: Head of Comms & Media

LOCATION: Remote

WHO WE ARE:
Red Wine & Blue is a national community of over 600,000 diverse suburban women working together to defeat extremism, one friend at a time (The Washington Post got it right with this profile: ‘Blue’ suburban moms are mobilizing to counter conservatives). We're seeking a sharp, strategic, and speedy Communications Manager to join our growing Comms & Media team. This person will be our go-to for their sharp political instincts and ability to distill complex policies, legislation, and legal jargon into clear, compelling language that feels warm, welcoming, and authentically resonates with everyday women. They should be able to write in Red Wine & Blue’s distinctive voice—balancing accuracy with accessibility and always connecting the dots between the personal and the political. We’re looking for someone who can demystify intimidating political language and create content that is both factually accurate and emotionally resonant. Our ideal candidate can draft rapid-response content in real time with minimal oversight and little need for heavy editing.

WHO YOU ARE: You are someone who can turn around strong content quickly — whether it's a response to breaking news, support for a state team campaign, or a powerful statement on a national issue. You’re a news junkie, a creative storyteller, and a skilled editor of your own work. You love staying entrenched in the news cycle, writing with heart and clarity, and you know how to speak to suburban women in a way that moves them to action.

This role does not directly supervise any team members and reports to the Head of Comms and Media. It is a full-time position that can be performed from anywhere in one of 13 current operating states (CA, CO, GA, IL, MI, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, TX, VA) and Washington, D.C. You must currently live in one of these states. Occasional travel is required for in-person meetings and all-staff gatherings.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Lead the creation and distribution of timely messaging and calls to action in response to breaking news and key political moments, helping secure media coverage and amplify Red Wine & Blue’s voice across traditional and digital platforms.
  • Write clear, compelling, and on-brand one-pagers, messaging documents, and other written materials for both national and state-based campaigns
  • Monitor news, social media, and political trends to identify timely content and messaging opportunities
  • Conduct background research on policies, elected officials, and current events to inform messaging, content strategy, and issues positioning
  • Develop messaging frameworks, talking points, and email content that feel relatable, urgent, and actionable and grounded in stories and experiences, and lived experiences of suburban women
  • Adapt national and coalition messaging for local context in collaboration with state teams
  • Support content creation for press statements, op-eds, and digital/social platforms as needed
  • Ensure all written materials align with Red Wine & Blue’s tone, voice, and communications goals
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with campaign, organizing, and digital teams
  • Pitch in on special projects and other writing needs as assigned
  • Support additional projects and duties as assigned

WHAT YOU’VE GOT:

  • Strong Writer: You’re a standout writer who can adopt and maintain an authentic, conversational tone. You’re fast, sharp, and require minimal editing.
  • Communications Experience: You have at least 5 years experience in communications or journalism, including expertise in research and messaging (preferably in a political, advocacy, or nonprofit setting).
  • Political Fluency: You track news, politics, and cultural trends like it’s your job—because it is.
  • Collaborative & Clear: You know how to work across teams, take feedback well, and ask the right questions when you need clarity.
  • Flexible & Fast: You thrive in fast-moving environments, juggling competing priorities while staying focused on quality.
  • Inclusive: You value equity in both content and culture, and you care about storytelling that reflects diverse voices and communities.
  • Playfully Passionate: Your ability to get sh*t done is accompanied by your love for fun. You understand that we can do serious work without taking ourselves too seriously.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Mission-Driven Work: Red Wine & Blue offers the opportunity to be a part of a movement fighting for democracy and social change.
  • Remote & Flexible: All Red Wine & Blue staff members work remotely, running virtual operations nationally and on the ground in five states. Candidates that reside in one of our current 13 operating states (CA, CO, GA, IL, MI, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, TX, VA) and Washington, D.C are encouraged to apply.
  • Generous Time Off: New RWB full-time employees enjoy up to 15 days of PTO, 15 sick days, and 22+ paid organizational holidays (including a one week Thanksgiving break and a two-week winter vacation in 2025).
  • Competitive Pay & Benefits: The starting salary range for this position is $60,000 - $75,000 and commensurate with related experience. We take pay equity seriously and work hard to ensure our team members are paid fairly regardless of their gender, race, or other demographic backgrounds. In addition to a competitive salary, we cover 75% of employee medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums. RWB offers an up to 4% employer match on retirement plans and new employees are eligible after 90 days of employment.

We strongly encourage women, people of color, people with disabilities, non-binary candidates, and LGBTQIA candidates to apply.
