JOB TITLE: General Clerk I

DEPARTMENT: Administrative Services

GRADE: TS-3

ANNUAL SALARY: $52,375.00

LOCATION: Washington, DC (Headquarters)

PURPOSE: This position is responsible for handling shipping, receiving and distribution of all materials entering or leaving SEIU headquarters and for determining the most cost- effective method for carrying out those tasks.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (Any one position may not include all of the specific duties and responsibilities listed. Examples provide a general summary of the work required and should not be treated as a total and complete list of expected duties to be performed by employees in the classification.)

  • Prepares and uses electronic postage equipment to determine the most cost- effective shipping method for USPS, UPS and overnight mail services.
  • Prepares, sorts, delivers and distributes letters, packages and other items in a timely
  • Fills and distributes accurately supply requisitions to correct
  • Answers telephone and take messages; gives messages to appropriate
  • Provides general clerical duties including filling out check request forms, processing staff requests for supplies, restocking copying paper and maintaining simple files.

  • Assists departments with internal office moves, moving crates, office furniture
  • Locates items for shipping using the literature inventory
  • Receives office supplies from vendors; restocks shelves and accurately completes supply orders.
  • Performs other duties as required to support the department and its mission.

DIRECTION AND DECISION MAKING:

This position reports to the Administrative Services Operations Manager.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from high school or equivalent and at least one year of previous related work experience.

Or, a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to lift heavy and bulky boxes or items of up to 70
  • Ability to communicate
  • Ability to use personal

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is generally performed in an office setting. May be required to lift items of up to 70 lbs. Some overtime may be required. This job required 5 days in office work and does not allow for virtual work.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD:

Sixteen (16) calendar weeks
