Compensation: $75,000-$95,000 depending on experience and geography. Sunrise provides a special city allowance if hire resides in a metro/micro area.

General Overview:
The Deputy Data Director is responsible for engineering, developing, and managing the infrastructure that runs Sunrise’s analytics program. It involves the seamless movement of data across our platforms and data warehouse that enables us to create dashboards, support staff in their day to day work and share our tools and data with the movement. They use our analytics to highlight the strengths of our movement and uncover opportunities to make data driven decisions to reach our organizational goals. They primarily do this through the use of transformation tools like Python, dbt, and Periscope to maintain a well-tested analytical layer.
Responsibilities
Analytics Engineering: 60%
Oversee Sunrise’s ELT infrastructure, including the engineering, analytical, and export workflows.
Use transformation tools like Python, dbt, and Periscope to maintain a well-tested analytical layer (e.g., modeling donor data from multiple sources into an event stream)
Implement data quality checks and data cleansing techniques to ensure data accuracy and consistency
Build and maintain the metrics layer in Sunrise’s analytical warehouse, including membership size, demographic metrics, event attendance conversion rates, and more.
Optimize data pipelines for performance and scalability to handle large volumes of data
Movement Reporting- 30%
Deliver reporting to Directors, departments, and staff through memos, one time and automated reports, and dashboards.
Creating dashboards, filters and views to keep the full Movement informed on the strength and trends within our Movement by maintaining the Movement Overview dashboards and creating more as needed.
Designing new systems to make it easy for the whole Movement Support Team to have access to key information for organizing/coordination purposes with Hubs
Communicate data insights effectively to stakeholders, translating technical concepts into clear and actionable recommendations
MISC Data Needs: 10%

Identify data needs across the movement and staff. Support the rest of the Data Team on current priority work.
This could be electoral data in Q4
Qualifications
Must Haves
Intermediate to advanced skills using SQL and python or javascript. Sunrises uses BigQuery SQL.
Intermediate to advanced skills using GoogleSheets, Periscope, Hex, Looker or other data visualization tools
Experience with the backend of voter contact distributed tools/platforms (text and phone bank tools, VAN, Mobilize, Ballot Ready)
Experience using the voter file to build universes and set up voter outreach with electoral organizing staff
You are skilled at working with data to set goals and metrics to drive strategy
Able to coach other staff & other volunteers on our digital tools and processes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities
Self-organized, able to be a part of multiple projects and teams and work on shifting campaign and program timelines and deadlines
Experience working in and/or leading a multiracial and cross-class team of staff or volunteers
Commitment to the vision of the Green New Deal and electing progressive candidates
Commitment to growth and learning
Available to attend an in person yearly staff retreat and quarterly/bi-yearly retreats
Nice To Haves
Advanced Google Sheets manipulation
Experience using dbt
Experience with your command line
Experience with and ability to use multiple digital/distributed organizing tools and platforms (EveryAction, Mobilize, Airtable, NewMode, Spoke etc)
Have volunteered or worked in movement, organizing, or political spaces similar to Sunrise
Experience in a leadership role in a Sunrise Movement hub
An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on low-income and communities of color and how this might relate to our voter contact strategies
What will you be able to achieve in this role
Learn new tools and techniques to extract, manipulate and analyze data
Leverage dbt to maintain an analytics layer that enables us to track our members, hubs, fundraising and growing power
Leverage the systems we have to automate data sharing with hubs
Experience doing data for programs from the design/redesign to post program debriefs
Contribute to the progressive left’s communal data projects and libraries
Access trainings and support from The Movement Cooperative and its members
