Position Title: Digital Director

Reports to: Political Director

Location: Flexible

Manages: Digital Community Lead, Digital Manager

Hours: Full Time


Start date: ASAP

Compensation: $75,000-95,000 depending on experience and geography. Sunrise provides a special city allowance if hire resides in a metro/micro area.

Position

Sunrise Movement is hiring a Digital Director to lead our creative and messaging strategy for digital communications to the base and public. They will set strategies for how to use various platforms — including social media, video, email, and text — to drive cohesive storytelling about Sunrise Movement’s strategy and run digitals campaigns that reach new audiences.


Core Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Comms and Narrative Strategy:

    • Develop and guide creative strategy, ensuring all communications tactics are compelling, engaging, have clear goals around basebuilding, organizing, and mobilizing.

    • Collaborate with staff to establish a cohesive narrative, messaging support, and consistent branding to guide all campaigns and content.

    • Help develop innovative digital organizing strategies to reach new audiences and set Sunrise up to be a political home for young people, in particular students and Black, Latine, and working class people.

  • Team Management:

    • Guide and support staff, providing hands-on creative direction, QA, and regular feedback, to maintain a consistent, high-quality approach across all projects, and steady mentorship and growth for staff.

    • Facilitate team calls and set good culture and rhythms.

    • Work closely with the Digital Manager to produce strong email, web, and text content that advances our narrative, mobilization, and digital fundraising goals. When needed, take on key projects and tasks in these areas to support.

  • Social media management:

    • Oversee and lead Sunrise’s social media strategy and vision by maintaining Sunrise’s communications calendar, setting digital and comms priorities, and goal setting

    • Calendar: Set and maintain a daily social media calendar that helps achieve Sunrise’s communications and organizing goals.

    • Approver on all Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and TikTok content

    • Copy writing and content production

    • Manage the Digital and Design Lead to produce content for Instagram, TikTok, and Youtube

    • Track social media trends and updates in platforms to help the team create innovative, high-performing content. Evaluate analytics and content performance and help the Communications Team shift plans accordingly.

  • Training and Political Education:

    • Ensure digital and comms work builds the skills of movement members/leaders to effectively and strategically tell Sunrise’s story.

  • Ad-hoc Comms Capacity Support:

    • Support on content production normally held by other comms roles when necessary to meet moments of high output or low team capacity.

    • As needed, manage advertising or design contractors to supplement digital fundraising or political work.


Requirements

Must have:

  • 3+ years experience running digital campaigns, including: drafting social media content, writing emails, coordinating with other teams on content production

  • 2+ years managing staff members or volunteers

  • Strong project management experience. Organized, and able to coordinate multiple projects on tight deadlines without letting tasks slip.

  • Able to work effectively as a team player. Comfortable giving and receiving feedback, including giving feedback to direct reports

  • Comfortable working with data to drive strategy around producing content for specific audiences or goals, especially BIPOC and working class audiences

  • Grounded in the connections between climate, economic, and racial justice and able to speak fluently to the intersections of these issues, familiarity with the Green New Deal

  • Persistent and creative. Willing to move projects forward on tight timelines and push through challenges.

  • Approaches digital work as a way to build the movement and tell the story of the work our movement is doing.

Nice to have, but not necessary:

  • Experience with electoral campaigning

  • Experience with platforms like EveryAction, ActionNetwork, ActBlue, and Mobilize

  • Experience with Wordpress and HTML
