Summary
The Narrativist is the creative engine—someone who can translate ideas, data, and strategy into compelling stories that resonate. This role blends strategic thinking with high-level writing talent to shape narratives that define the brand, inspire audiences, and move people to action. As the Narrativist, you will join a special project team working to support one client. The Pivot Group will serve as an incubator for this role, whereas Hummingbird Media will be the primary client.
This is a full-time, temporary position through December 2026 with a competitive salary and excellent benefits. The nature of our business requires long hours, and we expect all staff to be flexible in this area. Weekend and evening work will be required. However, Pivot works to ensure all staff maintain a healthy work/life balance.
Responsibilities
- Develop and craft campaign narratives across multiple platforms (digital, print, video, and social).
- Write long- and short-form copy for websites, speeches, and multimedia content.
- Collaborate with strategists, designers, and content producers to ensure narrative cohesion across projects.
- Identify emerging storytelling trends and adapt tone and structure to suit varied audiences.
- Contribute to creative brainstorming sessions and content planning meetings.
Qualifications
What you bring to the team:
- 5-10 years of practical, demonstrated, or project-based experience in story development, journalism, creative writing, or marketing communications.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and conceptual storytelling skills.
- Ability to translate complex ideas into emotionally resonant messages.
- Strong collaboration skills and openness to feedback.
- Background in journalism, communications, script writing, or creative writing preferred.
- Political, advocacy, or public interest experience is a plus, but not required.

Compensation & Benefits
The salary for this position is set at $90,000 per year. There is also the opportunity for end of year bonuses, based off individual and firm performance. To ensure pay equity across our team, salaries are non-negotiable.

This introductory phone call will be between you and a member of our Operations Team. We use this call to learn more about you, what you bring to the team, and answer your questions about the role.
3. Interview (30-45 min)
You will meet with the manager for this position. You'll learn more about the day-to-day work and responsibilities.
4. Final Interview (30-45 min)
A final round interview with a member of the hiring team.
5. Reference Checks
We will ask you to provide contact info for 3 professional references.
