LOCATION: National. 100% Remote, with 15-20% of expected travel for in-person team meetings and events.

Position Details:
This is a full-time, exempt at-will position. The team currently operates remotely, with occasional in-person team retreats, etc. Some travel will be required. Additional evening and weekend hours are occasionally required to fulfill the duties of this position. TSP is committed to the safety of our employees and has a communicable disease policy in place. The Opportunity:
The States Project is seeking a Senior Director of Programs to serve as a strategic partner to the Chief Programs Officer (CPO) and the Vice Presidents overseeing TSP’s 2 core programs: electoral and policy/lawmaker engagement. This position will also work with leaders across other teams and external partners to execute high-priority projects that increase our ability to effectively scale the virtuous cycle.
This position reports directly to the CPO and will work closely with organizational and team leaders to ensure strong alignment and collaboration between the Lawmaker Engagement (LE) and Political teams. This will include actively sharing information, providing input, and aligning strategy with the Growth, Communications, and Operations teams. They will manage strategic projects and initiatives for the Political and LE teams and work to ensure key priorities are met and goals are being achieved.
The successful candidate will have a keen sense of the intersection of politics and policy. They will be able to relay complicated political situations, manage internal and external stakeholders, and share our vision that we can build power and create lasting change in the states. We are looking for someone who possesses strong political judgment and experience, as well as an understanding of how to advance policy and build power.

What You Will Do:
- Principal activities will include but are not limited to:
- Ideate, manage, and execute high-priority projects and initiatives for the CPO and senior leaders across Political and LE teams both internally and externally
- Manage and guide processes for launching new initiatives from idea to execution, including refining concepts and developing clear project briefs and plans
- Ensure we reach goals for new initiatives (e.g., number and quality of participating lawmakers, objectives achieved, etc.)
- Ensure there is a clear plan for disseminating ideas and lessons learned from new initiatives to a broader audience
- Manage and improve systems to facilitate ongoing project management and execution across and between Political and LE teams, as well as when the Political and LE teams are working with other relevant teams or external partners
- Develop and oversee Objectives and Key Results as needed, analyze results, and provide regular updates and reporting, as well as generate new ideas for strategic initiatives or ways to improve results
- Provide input and/or lead longer term strategic planning processes
- Communications and Information Management
- Ensure the work TSP is doing to execute best-in-class state legislative campaigns and support lawmakers in advancing policies that improve lives is being effectively communicated internally and externally
- Manage and improve systems to facilitate the ongoing sharing of information between Political and LE teams, as well as across other relevant teams
- Draft donor, board, and other stakeholder updates from the Programs Team
- Work with Communications Team to develop public facing content on our work, including storybank examples, featured candidates, and key lawmakers
- Provide comms and strategy support on creation and dissemination of key resources (e.g., TSP agendas, policy memos, foundational documents about our Core Electoral Program and impact, etc.)
- Oversee annual budgeting process for Political and LE teams, as well as provide ongoing analysis of spending
- Research and propose new experts, organizations, lawmakers, and other leaders to engage
- Serve as relationship manager for a set of external partners, solicit input and bring policy and partnership ideas back to the team, and manage ongoing partnerships and engagement
- Lead internal and external stakeholder management and high level coordination of work across LE and Political for special initiatives (e.g., task forces, preparing for legislative session, convenings, etc.)
- Participate in planning, gathering information, preparing materials for, and engaging in conversations with new donors, as well as providing updates and reports to current donors
- Manage process improvements and systems for tracking stakeholders

What You Bring To The Partnership:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study
- At least ten years of progressively responsible professional experience, including at least five years in senior-level leadership capacity and three years working in politics, policy, or government
- Passion for and alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and theory of change

Compensation:
The salary for this position is $164,025 - $173,138 per year*. Salary offers are made based on the market rate and the candidate's demonstrated level of proficiency, experience, and credentials.
*The pay rate or range noted for this position is in compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act and other state and local laws.
