The Vermont Democratic Party (VDP) is seeking a Data Director to lead the party’s voter data infrastructure and analytics programs. The Data Director will play a central role in building the data systems that power Democratic organizing and campaigns across Vermont. This role will be responsible for managing the party’s voter file, developing targeting universes for persuasion, mobilization, and volunteer recruitment, and building reporting systems that allow leadership and organizers to track progress toward program goals. About the RoleThe Data Director will report to the Executive Director and work closely with organizing staff, campaigns, and national partners to analyze data, develop paths to victory, and ensure that Democratic candidates across Vermont have access to the tools and insights they need to win elections. This role will also oversee the party’s VAN/VoteBuilder administration, support local Democratic committees and campaigns using voter contact tools, and help develop best practices for data use across the organization. This position is full-time and based in Vermont, with travel throughout the state as needed. Our Data Director must be a goal-oriented, metrics-driven self-starter willing to work weekends and evenings in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, with a high level of attention to detail. Responsibilities:Voter File & VAN Administration- Work closely with the DNC and the Vermont Secretary of State’s office to ensure timely and accurate updates to the statewide voter file, including voter registration data, absentee voting data, and polling locations.- Administer the Vermont Democratic Party’s VAN/VoteBuilder committees, including user permissions, account management, shared data sets, and system configuration.- Maintain strong data hygiene practices within VoteBuilder and administer/support additional voter contact tools; oversee related vendor relationships. Targeting & Voter Contact Strategy- Create targeted voter contact and volunteer recruitment universes to support organizing and campaign programs across Vermont.- Work with organizing, communications, and political staff to generate actionable insights that support strategic decision-making.- Provide data support to Democratic candidates and campaigns; develop data-driven solutions to improve organizing, targeting, and campaign effectiveness. Reporting, Analytics & Insights- Produce analysis of voter contact results, volunteer engagement, early/absentee turnout, voter registration trends, and other campaign-relevant data; present findings clearly to leadership and partners.- Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting tools to track organizing metrics, goals, and progress; build automated workflows and reporting systems.- Prepare district profiles, landscape memos, and presentations communicating key data insights to staff, campaigns, and partners. Training & Campaign Support- Develop and deliver training and best practices for staff, campaigns, and local committees on VAN and other voter contact tools.- Provide support to campaigns and committee administrators; establish troubleshooting standards and communication channels.- Develop training materials and documentation on best practices for data usage and systems. Data Management & Integrity- Collect and clean political data, including scrubbing and matching acquired lists to the voter file; monitor and maintain data quality across tools and databases. Miscellaneous Duties- Assist with Montpelier office management and clerical upkeep; other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. Location Requirements: Statewide travel is expected. Preferred Qualifications:- Familiarity with GIS mapping and geographic voter analysis.- Experience with large datasets using SQL or other relational database tools.- Familiarity with data visualization platforms (Tableau, Google Data Studio, or similar).- Experience with voter contact platforms (phone banking, text messaging, relational organizing).- Experience supporting political campaigns or advocacy organizations.- Familiarity with Vermont politics preferred but not required. Required Qualifications:- 2+ years of experience in political campaigns, advocacy, or nonprofit data operations.- Strong experience with VAN/VoteBuilder, including database administration.- Experience managing voter files and building targeting universes.- Experience developing reports/dashboards/data visualizations that communicate insights clearly.- Understanding of campaign organizing tactics and how data supports voter contact programs.- Highly organized; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously; strong communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences; comfortable in a fast-paced environment; commitment to Democratic values; able to work independently and as part of a team. Salary: Full-time with generous benefits; competitive salary ($50,000–$75,000) commensurate with experience.
