Salary: $70,000

About VoteVets Action Fund
VoteVets Action Fund is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, whose primary purpose is to advocate for issues impacting troops, veterans, and their families. VoteVets Action Fund (VVAF) focuses on matters including, but not limited to, foreign policy (including war-making policy), veterans’ unemployment, robust investment in care for veterans, energy security, protecting the rights of those who serve, and upholding the Constitution and democracy.
About the Position
VVAF seeks a Social Media Manager to help drive daily content and rapid-response storytelling across our social platforms. This role is responsible for publishing a consistent stream of compelling, shareable posts that amplify VoteVets priorities, elevate trusted validators, and capitalize on moments breaking on Capitol Hill and across the country. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with sharp political instincts, excellent writing skills, and the ability to move fast without sacrificing accuracy or tone.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily content creation & publishing
- Craft and publish 1-3 high-quality posts per day, 6–7 days per week, across VoteVets social media channels.
- Translate VoteVets priorities into platform-native content that drives engagement, persuasion, and action.
- Maintain a consistent brand voice and messaging discipline across all channels.
Long-term Projects
- Develop and implement a unique strategy to grow develop an audience on long-form platforms like Substack and YouTube.
- Create long-form content that highlights VoteVets principles and major successes.
Amplification & coalition tracking
- Track and surface content from VoteVets-aligned Members of Congress, candidates, and state/local elected leaders in real time.
- Identify and amplify the strongest quotes, clips, and messages from partners and validators to maximize reach and impact.
- Coordinate amplification opportunities to ensure VoteVets is elevating the right voices at the right moments.
Rapid response & trend participation
- Monitor breaking news, hearings, votes, and major political moments on Capitol Hill and nationwide.
- Execute rapid-response posting to help VoteVets capitalize on viral moments, narrative openings, and high-attention cycles, doing so in the VoteVets voice and tone.
- Proactively anticipate upcoming news hooks and build content plans around them.
Strategy & voice leadership
- Develop and refine a social media strategy that elevates VoteVets principles and trusted messengers, including (but not limited to) Major General Paul Eaton, Former Congressman Max Rose, and other elected leaders.
- Recommend content pillars, recurring formats, and testing plans to improve performance over time.
- Help set the pace and standard for what “good” looks like across channels.
Performance tracking & iteration
- Track basic performance metrics (reach, engagement, follower growth, video views, click-throughs) and use insights to improve content.
- Identify patterns in what performs and adjust style, timing, and formats accordingly.
- Provide weekly takeaways: what worked, what didn’t, and what to try next.
Required Qualifications
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to produce punchy, platform-native copy quickly.
- Excellent news judgment and instincts for what will travel online.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities and breaking news.
- Ability to work independently—a true self-starter who does not need daily instructions to execute.

Reporting & Support
This role works in concert with the VVAF Communications Team. The team will provide guidance, feedback, and practical coaching on creating viral content—but the person in this role is expected to operate with high independence and initiative. This position reports to the Director of Communications.
