The Arizona Volunteer Recruitment Organizer will play a vital role in building a strong, progressive, and durable political organization within the state. They will lead efforts in recruiting, engaging, and conducting outreach with volunteers, while assisting the Arizona Senior Organizer with organizing initiatives. A significant portion of their time will be dedicated to recruiting and managing volunteers to carry out voter outreach activities. These activities are aimed at base building, political education, and engagement, directly related to our electoral work across Arizona.
As a key member of the Arizona Working Families Party (AZ-WFP) Team, this position will collaborate closely with our Arizona and national teams to support our direct electoral efforts, including political action committee and independent expenditure committee campaigns. Given the limited capacity, the Volunteer Recruitment Organizer will contribute to these crucial electoral initiatives while simultaneously fostering a robust volunteer force. The position is temporary and full time, ending November 12th, 2024.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Volunteer Recruitment, Organizing, and Base Building
  • Support the overall election work of the AZ-WFP, with a focus on grassroots volunteer mobilization
  • Identify, recruit, and train a diverse group of volunteers from Working Families-aligned organizations & communities as well as the broader public, with specific weekly goals to:
  • Identify potential volunteers through various tactics including phone calls (approximately 4 hours of call time daily)
  • Conduct relational one-on-one meetings (via video or phone) with potential volunteers
  • Mobilize volunteers to conduct voter outreach activities in your region
  • Conduct regular volunteer orientations and trainings by video conference
  • Provide comprehensive volunteer management and support to ensure a productive and positive experience that results in repeat volunteers
  • Maintain close communication and regular updates on projects in order to mobilize members
  • When legally compliant, coordinate volunteer and paid voter outreach efforts
  • Assist with political/popular education training sessions and skills building workshops
  • Digital Outreach and Organizing
  • Utilize Social Media for outreach, including FB, IG, X, Tik Tok, Mobilize including making graphics, writing content, posting, responding to questions and messages, and reposting from partner orgs and candidates
  • Launch TikTok account and create reels with support from the AZ Political Manager
  • Support the overall WFP social media strategy
  • Political and Coalition Building
  • Support the AZ Political Manager and Senior Organizer with recruitment and outreach for events
  • Recruit campaign storytellers with compelling narratives who can participate in events, activities, earned media programs, and as local leaders
  • Assist with technical support to partner organizations on WFP mobilization tools (Mobilize, Scale to Win, Spoke, etc.)
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Required:
  • At least 3 years of experience in political or social justice campaigns, which may include a mix of: experience recruiting and leading volunteers, experience in community or labor organizing, and experience with digital organizing
  • Strong analytical skills and sound political judgment
  • A strong commitment to progressive social change and racial, economic and environmental justice within an anti-oppression framework
  • Familiarity with Arizona’s political landscape and social justice ecosystem
  • Demonstration of a high level of project management including the ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise, make contingency plans, and shift plans as needed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication between multiple parties with grace and respect during challenging and aggressive timelines
  • Ability to manage multiple streams of work
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights/ weekends, depending on campaign needs
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods in order to perform routine office tasks and staff events
  • Car or reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required (mileage reimbursed)
  • Intermediate computer skills, including GSuite (Gmail, Google Docs & Spreadsheets)
  • Advanced level of experience working with VAN, Votivate, or other voter file software
  • Experience with mobilization tools (Mobilize, Scale to Win, ThruTalk, Spoke, Action Network, etc.)
  • Advanced level of experience with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Slack, etc.)
  • Preferred:
  • Ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Conflict resolution skills through a restorative justice and anti-oppression framework
  • Bilingual Spanish/ English strongly preferred

What Else Should You Know

  • Compensation: The salary range for this position is $52,000 to $62,000. The final salary for this role will be determined based on our Pay Scale, which takes into consideration years of experience, geographic location, and final job description. The upper end of the salary range is reserved for individuals who significantly exceed the minimum qualifications and years of experience.

  • Location and Travel: This is a hybrid role requiring you to work approximately 2 days per week in person at The McKinley Club office and/or various locations for meetings and events in Phoenix, Arizona. You may need to travel for major events and all staff meetings a few times per year.
  • Schedule: The position is temporary and full time, ending November 12th, 2024.
  • Union Affiliation: WFP is a unionized workplace. This is a short term temporary role that is not eligible for inclusion in WFP’s staff bargaining unit. WFP's union employees are represented by the New York Metropolitan Area Joint Board, Workers United union.
