About CLASI
Community Labor Administrative Services, Inc. is a non-stock not-for profit company offering a range of administrative services to a wide portfolio of clients in both the Non-Profit Sector and the world of American Progressive Politics.
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Accountant to join our finance team and support the Chief Financial Officer in strengthening the financial systems and health of our growing organization. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing excellent financial services to various organizations across the progressive political ecosystem, and be excited to grow their role and capabilities through a variety of software and innovative accounting techniques and processes.
Community Labor Administrative Services Inc. (CLASI) provides services to more than thirty hosted projects and client organizations. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for bookkeeping, tracking/invoicing for accounts receivable, assisting with entering and correcting entries in accounting software, aiding the CFO in reconciling income and expenses, and assisting the CFO and CLASI organizations with additional tasks as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accounting:
  • Conduct account analysis and reconciliations, including accounts payable, receivable and balance sheet accounts.
  • Review and approve bank reconciliations, ensuring the accuracy of financial records.
  • Assist in preparing and verifying all departmental budgets versus actual reports.
  • Audit journal entries for accuracy and back up documents.
  • Prepare, post, verify and correct entries in account software using double-entry accounting.
  • Maintain and analyze fringe schedule and reconcile monthly against billing.
  • Responsible for grant management tracking and reconciliation with foundations.
  • Compliance and Regulation:
  • Ensure that financial practices comply with legal and political compliance regulations and organizational policies.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Deep and Demonstrated Commitment to Racial, Gender, and Economic Justice. You are passionate about and genuinely interested in supporting organizations as they change the world for the better. You are values aligned and invested in bringing them to life in your daily work and relationships. Demonstrates knowledge of multi-entity set up within a non profit framework.
  • Financial Analysis & Management Skills. You have a proven track record of successful accounting at nonprofit organizations. You are able to manage budgets and oversee financial reporting and compliance. You have experience with bank reconciliations and conducting general ledger and account analyses. You have an accounting degree or 3+ years working for political parties/organizations. You bring a thorough understanding of, or an ability to learn, double-entry bookkeeping concepts. Ideally you have a BSc/BA in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field.
  • Technology Skills. You have a high level of comfort with financial management technologies (e.g. FundEZ, Certify, Emburse, SAP), expense reimbursement/credit card platforms, and can demonstrate an ability to import/export data to sync with the general ledger. Excellent ability using Microsoft Excel and/or Google Drive.
  • Strategic Thinking & Judgment. You can demonstrate data-driven, analytical, strategic thinking skills, a commitment to getting to the root cause of challenges, and a track record of developing relevant, creative and innovative solutions.
  • Relational Skills. You are adept at building authentic relationships across differences, managing multiple priorities in fast-paced environments, and effectively collaborating with colleagues. You have a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and match your actions to that commitment.
  • Service Orientation. You have a strong customer service orientation and bring a high level of personal responsibility around meeting staff and client needs. You follow through on the commitments you make to staff/clients and inspire others to do the same. You are detail-oriented, organized, possessing the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Communication Skills. You have strong communication skills with a proven track record of effectively communicating financial information to non-financial stakeholders and communicating effectively across teams and disciplines.

What Else Should You Know

  • Compensation: The salary range for this role is $70,000-$90,000. The final salary for this role will be determined based on our Pay Scale, which takes into consideration years of experience, geographic location, and final job description. The upper end of the salary range is reserved for individuals who significantly exceed the minimum qualifications and years of experience.

  • Location and Travel: This is a hybrid role requiring you to work a minimum of two days per week in person at our office in downtown Brooklyn, excluding the onboarding period which will require a minimum of three days per week in person. You may need to travel for major events and all staff meetings a few times per year.
  • Schedule: The position is full time and permanent.
