Strategic Political Graphic Designer
Mission Control
In our fast-paced environment, AEs and Principals provide rapid, high-level feedback. We need an experience print graphic designer who can quickly translate raw strategic input—even a brief directive—into a polished, high-impact visual. You will interpret strategy and refine existing pieces to ensure success.
Key Responsibilities
• Strategic Interpretation: Listen to feedback from AEs and Principals (e.g., "This needs to feel more 'Main Street' and less 'D.C.'") and immediately execute the design changes—typography, color grading, photo swaps or layout—to achieve that result. Know when to start from scratch.
• Direct File Surgery: Act as a hands-on contributor by refining compositions, applying bold typography, and ensuring files meet internal team expectations using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
• Rapid Iteration: Adapt quickly to fast campaign cycles by implementing edits within minutes, elevating the original artist's work to its most effective form.
· The Final Word on Quality: Serve as the final checkpoint for visual impact. If a piece misses strategic goals, take ownership and revise it to ensure readiness for mailing, including recreating it if necessary.
• Technical Precision: Maintain print readiness of all revised pieces, ensuring CMYK color, outlined fonts, and correct bleed despite tight deadlines.
**The Ideal Candidate
**• Democratic Mail Veteran: Minimum 4 years in the industry with expertise in the visual shorthand of winning campaigns. Able to switch seamlessly among Bio, Contrast, Negative, and GOTV styles.
• Strategic Intuition: Possess a political ear to interpret AE and Principal feedback and deliver the desired visual outcome without detailed briefs.
• No-Ego: Thrive in a best-idea-wins environment by embracing feedback as strategic direction and delivering results quickly and effectively.
• Adobe Power User: Demonstrate superior speed and precision in Illustrator and InDesign, leveraging shortcuts and techniques to implement high-impact changes instantly.
• Communication Skills: Clearly and concisely explain to our internal team how your visual changes address their strategic concerns. Pick up the phone when more details are needed to execute.
